NC Welcome Letter

May 10, 2010

Members and Friends,

On the behalf of the Division of Services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, North Carolina Department of Human and Health Services, we extend our warm welcome to all of you to the NASRA Conference 2010 in Durham, known as the City of Medicine, where you will experience some of the finest Southern hospitality.

During your stay, you will experience some of the early colors of the Fall foliage in October. The beautiful Durham Marriott Convention Center is within walking distance to various tobacco factories converted into restaurants and shops where the conveyor belts that transported the bales of tobacco from the freight trains into the factories still can be seen. There is a complimentary shuttle bus to transport you to any place within the five mile radius of the hotel. Be sure to take the time to enjoy some of the restaurants, some with nationally acclaimed chefs. Please take the time to click on the various sights to see and events to attend in Durham.

The Triangle area (Durham, Raleigh and Chapel Hill) is the home of various prominent universities, including Duke University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (the first public university in the US), and North Carolina State University. It is also home to the world-renowned Research Triangle Park which includes some of the biggest and most cutting-edge technology companies in the world. In fact, the Triangle has the world’s highest concentration of individuals with doctorates.

The hotel does not provide shuttle services to and from the airport. There are some shuttle vehicles that can transport you to the hotel. They are Super Shuttle or S & H transportation.

To make a shuttle reservation through Super Shuttle, call 1-800-622-2089 ext. 2 or rdusales@supershuttle.net. To make a reservation through S & H transportation, call 919-680-0700 office or 919-604-4522 cell and ask for Sammy Hanna. The cost of transportation is as follows:

Super Shuttle $18.00 per-person each way.

S & H Transportion $25 per-person each way. If 2 to 4 people pool together, the cost will be $15.00 per person each way.  If it is 5 or more are pooling and reserving a round trip ticket, then it is $10.00 per person each way.

For fun and sightseeing beyond Durham…the beaches, the wineries in various counties and the Blue Ridge Mountains are about two to three hours away.

Come and enjoy your stay!
