Virginia Relay enables people who are deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf-Blind, or speech disabled to communicate by TTY (text telephone) or another assistive telephone device with anyone who uses a standard phone.
It's Easy to Make (and Receive!) Virginia Relay Calls.
A free public service, Virginia Relay connects people who are deaf, hard of hearing, Deaf-Blind or speech disabled with standard telephone users, relaying the conversation between both parties. Relay services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with no limit on the number or length of calls a user may make.
It’s easy to make (and receive!) Virginia Relay calls! Anyone may initiate a Virginia Relay call, anytime, simply by dialing 7-1-1. After reaching Virginia Relay, callers give the Virginia Relay Communications Assistant (CA) the phone number of the person or business they wish to contact. Once a connection is made, the CA relays the conversation between both parties.
Virginia Relay calls are reliable and secure. By law, CAs communicate the typed or spoken words exactly as given and maintain absolute confidentiality about all conversations. To ensure equal access, CAs type everything they hear, including background noises and voice intonations.
